About Taijiquan
Taijiquan is one of the famous branches of the Traditional Chinese Martial Arts. Its history spans more than 300 years. More recently Taijiquan has been practised by millions of people around the world to promote health. Serious devetees aim to attain harmony in mind and body, the development of Qi, and tranquility of spirit. Every living being has Qi, or 'vital energy'. In Taijiquan one aspires to make Qi stronger and generate Jing (internal power).
There are many different forms and methods of Taijiquan from which to choose, depending on one's age, interests, and level of fitness. This is one of the reasons why it is widely practised today and becoming so popular in the West. Taijiquan is the distillation of the best principles and applications of many martial arts and is a highly refined means of self-defence. Many stylists from other martial arts therefore learn Taijiquan to acquire its philosophy and skills in order to enhance the appreciation of their own discipline. Taijiquan is also practised as a competitive sport.
